Development of Landforms

How have physical processes shaped patterns in the physical environment?
Physical Processes and the "Spheres"
  • Lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere
  • Complete the KTL chart (Know Think you Know Learned).
  • Share something from each column on the board. Include justification for your response.
    • For example, “I know that glaciers are in the cryosphere because cryo, as in ‘cryogenics,’ relates to cooling and ice.
Landforms and Bodies of Water
  • Use the available resources to write one example for each of the landforms on the list.
  • Share your examples with a neighbor and take note of theirs if its different than yours.
  • Label which "spheres" you think are relevant to the formation of five landforms / bodies of water. *Include why you think so.
How are landforms created?
  • Follow the lyric sheet and do hand motions to represent the three types of tectonic movement.

  • Illustrate the types of movement as they relate to specific examples: mountain building, subduction, volcano, mid-ocean ridge, rift valley, earthquake.

  • Watch the Weathering, Erosion, Deposition video and define each of the following terms:  weathering, erosion (wind, water, and ice), deposition, gravity. [Play video as many times as necessary.]

  • Complete the graphic organizer activity called "Change Over Time": Understanding the Formation of Earth's Landforms
